They knew she died as well so they would have just said they didn't shoot anyone or any of the victims. Specifying children is one of those non-admission admissions that make PR demons cum.

The SRO returned then, having been called by the cops who had been chasing the shooter, and didn't see the shooter, who was hiding behind cars. Instead, he confronted a teacher who was walking out of the school.
I've been guessing that the cop then shot that teacher.
