American police would kill you. They would draw guns and if you didn't immediately surrender they would gun you down like animals. If you actually managed to get some punches in and they didn't shoot you, they'd beat you unconscious. And then you'd go to jail, where you'd be held for months or years awaiting trial. Then they'd convict you and send you to prison. Probably for like a decade for assaulting an officer. In jail you'd be subjected to beatings, harassment, and solitary confinement because you were in for attacking a cop.
It's really bad here. We can only push back against them when it's tens or hundreds to one. And after the crowds break up and go home they start the reprisals, kidnappings, assassinations, and sweeps. People get brought up on old warrants, probation violations, petty traffic crimes, whatever. People get found dead in burned out cars with a gunshot to the head. The cops favorite tactic for punishing whole neighborhoods collectively is to fly helicopters low over the houses all night for months on end, or run big convoys of police SUVs through the neighborhood at dangerous speeds with their sirens on for hours. If we push back hard enough the feds get involved and it's that much worse.
We're not helpless, but the cops have to do something really fucked up, on camera, for communities to really rise up against them. The situation is not good.
Police here are a lot worse and don't even try to hide it. The left-wing here is just more militant because they're constantly defending themselves from police, military, MS-13, and right-wing agitators. Sometimes the CIA as well. You sort of have to be militant if you want to be part of a political group in Central America because of how nasty retaliations from the aforementioned groups are.
It probably also helps that the vast majority hates the police and you don't really see working class people defend them like you do in the US.
