Honestly, yeah me when talking about basicaly anything before 2008:
A literal handful of "gems" across 25 years doesn't make the 80-90s some grandiose good old days of anime and I don't think the industry suffered any significant decline since 1995. There is more trash, there is also more amazing great stuff, it is what it is.
it's much more than a handful. i agree with your broad point, but i think there's not actually more great stuff now, simply because of production realities. so much stuff just never gets the chance to end satisfactorily because it's always limited to 12 episodes. still plenty of great stuff of course, but there was plenty of amazing stuff in the 80s and 90s as well. the 2 best tv anime of all time were in the 90s and the best movie was 2001, and i don't think there's anything that even comes close
but obviously there was a lot of dogshit out there as well, many terrible terrible ovas
Nice. And yeah juat another one of my endless, deeply unserious contrarian takes, I like Mononoke better for a Ghibli even if it's sort of retvrn-y, but I'd also easily elect Akira for best anime film? Granted I haven't watched a ton
akira is gorgeous but i read the manga and that was a better told story and it ruined the movie a little for me. i mean i obviously still love it, but it's not perfect for me in the way millennium actress is
hmmm, my favorite ghibli might be ponyo tbh. i just find it really charming. though i need to watch more takahata because i feel like i vibe with him over miyazaki tbh
i have no idea how you guessed lmao, i am eternally on my bullshit
some of the bad ovas are fun, but sometimes they're just miserable to watch. you ever see fake? not the worst thing out there by a long shot, but it's so painful to watch

please do not be Spirited Away posting
nah, i mean i like spirited away just fine, but if we're talking the BEST it's gotta be millennium actress. no competition in my heart
i take it you aren't a spirited away fan?

Lemme guess Turn A and Utena? Hahaha
At least most of them are single episodes. Kinda fun to have a nibble of trash every now and then.

I only watch good stuff
Kidding, I usually save the boring-bad stuff to put on in the background when I'm working lol. Haven't seen Fake
