    software engineering will have to deprofessionalize first. it's already begun, but at the moment, their salaries, education, and social status are enough to convince the average hackernews that they don't have any sort of obligation to the people that use the things they create.

      yeah, unfortunately material conditions go brrr on that one for the time being, my last workplace unionization effort def speaks to that too.

      it's really interesting because the majority of software engineers in my professional experience range from west-wing-brained shitlib to bonafide comrades, and there's still a pretty big contingent of FOSS anarchists in the mix. I guess anarchists aren't gonna be pushing for professional certs though, especially with all the FOSS libertarians (:visible-disgust:) running in similar circles. But i'd half-expect the shitlibs to cry about breaking the rules before implementing this garbage
