close bets on whether we can have a contrapoints thread without it turning into a struggle session

Thanks for the rundown. Being trans seems hard enough, adding in being called a faker can only compound that.

And the medical sciences always seem to be behind the zeitgeist on these kinds of issues, huh? I think homosexuality wasn't delisted as a psychiatric condition until like the 80s?

it comes from a place of "if we appease the cis and don't allow the people who are too weird into our circle, society will accept us". which is fundamentally a reactionary place as you start dividing the in-group from the out-group on essentialist lines.

I felt charitably about it for a long time but her attitude about it has been straight up combative for too long to really buy that as an explanation. the way you act represents the way you think better than the mere words coming out of your mouth. if her incentives are leading her to reaction, she has the remarkable freedom to change her incentives, being a petit bourgeois minor celebrity.

A portion of the left twitter community really did not like some of her takes on certain trans issues. She's explained it in videos before.

Not much. For this site specifically, I think some don't like that she's more like "socialist-adjacent" than outright socialist. I don't care myself, but I think some do.

Natalie's a fuckin hero and the people who want to cancel her for one bad take or opinion need to recalibrate their soul frequency.

this ain't it chief, it's not 'cancelling her for a bad opinion' it's 'has a sketchy fucking past on supporting enbies'. Her contrapoints sub went full transmedicalist after the buck angel things and were calling enbies like a "woke gang" and shit like that and refused to even listen to why we were even upset. Not to mention when she did her little oopsie doodle i accidentally jokingly said enbies are "the youth" (despite being like 35) bullying me into being "woke" and accepting their pronouns circles, a bunch of right wingers started RTing her.

If that's the kind of people she's attracting, it's really dismissive to call our distrust of her "cancelling for one bad take". I'm not saying don't watch her, i'm saying don't dismiss our concerns as some woke police cancelling. That's literally what the right wingers who RT'd her think about us.

This is what you're defending. Love to downvote a nonbinary former fan of Natalie and defend someone who calls my gender "radical"

Yup, my heroes are human and flawed and sometimes live in a world of contrasts. Given her net value on the positive end of things, I can live with it.

never said otherwise anywhere in my entire comment? I didn't say she was even bad or not worth watching, you libs are fucking sensitive jfc.

I'm literally just saying you're being dismissive to a vulnerable group of people to call our concerns "cancelling over one bad opinion" when it literally impacts our lives what cis people think of non-binary or trans people who don't easily pass.

Eh, this whole "look at me ironically being a cringe catgirl" shtick is getting stale.
