In short- Responsibility only exists if you assume that free will exists, that we live in a non-deterministic universe where the Other that gives us the ability to defy material forces does not originate from those forces. In reality, material forces and ideas perpetrate into themselves in an infinite loop, no one person is the pure originator of their wrongdoings and no decision is made in clear mind. The closest we get is quantum physics influencing things at effectively random.
You are, objectively, an over-intellectual jack ass.
Just want to say I’m completely with you. I don’t so much feel bad for these guys as I do feel sad at a world that can create people like this, whose life is a tragedy in every regard as they are doomed to be servants of the system. Bad people yes, but thinking about them just makes me depressed. They dish out more suffering than they experience, yet still experience far more than anyone would in a just world. No such person could ever find true happiness. Well not that I have either.

Especially when we're talking about ex-US military Iraq/Afghanistan vets whose takeaway was "you know what, we need to do more Team America: World Police bullshit."
This is borderline fascist apologia as these mercenaries signed up to fight on behalf of neonazi fascists. They are no different from packs of white supremacist mercenaries that roamed across Rhodesia. Do you extend the same courtesy to members of the Wehrmacht? At least you have the excuse that soldiers of the Wehrmacht were conscripted. These mercenaries enlisted to do some war tourism with the chance of death and now they're about to reap what they have sown.
This is actually immensely sad. These are people, likely lonely, who have had their minds twisted into instruments of murder and death. And then of course they don’t even receive the selfish benefits for it, because the capitalist machine that creates such cultists only cares about how they can use them, and not their wellbeing. There was never a good ending for these people. They didn’t deserve this fate, and the only way to save future victims is to dismantle the systems of capitalist propaganda that created these revenants in the first place.
I'm not going to feel sorry for a blood thirsty imperialist. I feel sorry for their victims.
real "WON'T SOMEBODY PLEASE THINK OF THE POOR CONCENTRATION CAMP GUARDS?!" energy
I don't feel much for these guys, but your empathy isn't a bad thing as long as it doesn't translate to support. It's OK to acknowledge the humanity in our enemies - just not at the expense of their victims.
This is a stupid take and I am astounded that it has any upbears. Nobody forced them to go overseas into a war that had nothing to do with them.
A person has to take responsibility for their actions. What separates a human from an animal is our ability to think into the future and make proactive choices instead of just reactive responses to stimuli. If they really have no control over their actions then they were dangerous animals that were a threat to human kind and and the world at large. Their death is no worse than shooting a rabid dog in fact it is a net benefit to the world.
If they were just doing what their nature and culture dictated then nobody has free will and nothing matters and I'm not responsible for calling you a fucking moron because I was just programmed to say it by my preordained interactions.

TBH, I'm not personally sure that people are innately born with that ability, or at the very least I believe you can very much dissolve a person's ability to do this. I don't know as though anybody that got captured here is an example of such a person, but I do think it exists.

I don't know that a dog becoming rabid & then having to be put down is a net benefit to the world. I imagine that's a net increase in suffering within the world overall, tbh.

I mean yea; that could very well be. :shrug-outta-hecks:
(Though I might contest that a lack of genuine free will in people means that "nothing matters". It just means you can't attribute a definite & essential moral character to any particular person; nor can you extract it from their actions, or beliefs. It means that anybody could conceivably become a fascist, under the right circumstances, and that you should seek to eliminate the possibility of those circumstances where & when you can; not that it isn't a bad thing if someone is one.)
For what it's worth, I thought you were correct. It can be tricky not to equivocate between oppressor and oppressed, but I think you made it clear that you didn't do that. I think it's important to emphasize that everyone is hurt by capitalism, but of course in different ways and degrees.
Don't care, your lesson today - on top of that wonderful section of history you just read (to which i say thanks for reading my post) is to be more conscious of how you are phrasing your statements so you don't end up in my modlog reports for "Fascist apologia"

I for one believe we are very much going to need to harden ourselves to the deaths of literal fascist war criminals.

making analogies to Star Trek while discussing the righteous slaughter of fascists is not quite as cringe as referencing harry potter but only just

no. fucking. duh. All humans live in this world and thus this is the center of all the human suffering in the universe.
Yes, because of pigs like these
Well said. Empathy is a virtue we cannot afford to lose
Wtf yes they did

Read this. All of it. pay attention to what Attorney-General Vyshinsky said, and pay attention to what Avdeyenko says.
