There needs to be a term for those restaurants/cafes that pop up when gentrification happens

The UK corrolary is an Asian (what do you mean there are multiple countries and cultures in Asia?) restaurant called something like Geisha with menus in Wonton font selling the saddest Baos you've ever seen in your life.

At least in Chicago they mostly don't fool anyone. Some folks opened up a taco spot in a super gentrified neighborhood here that had a big fancy neon sign and all that jazz that made it look like a corporate chain restaurant. They eventually put up a sign that said "locally owned latinx business" because everyone thought it was white people tacos and they weren't getting any business.

Once worked with a guy from Texas who said he loved this Mexican place nearby. We got tacos from there brought in to a work party, and it was the blandest of the bland white people tacos I have ever tasted - it was like a teaspoon of chili powder for a pot of ground beef. Beans also unflavored, and it came with lettuce, cheese, and plain diced tomatoes.

      Turns out he's extremely racist

Becoming a "we used to be a country" guy but for when I used to be able to order food in Macedonian in Scarborough.

I remember when I was a stupid idiot liberal child and I thought gentrification was the dumbest thing I ever heard of "You guys oppose people having nice things?"

A few examples like this really, really would have put shit into perspective

TACO LIFE Randy and Dan grew up in Orange County, California, where you could find a Mexican taqueria on every corner. The food was great, but they knew there was an opportunity to create a taco shop with not only authentic Mexican food, but with a unique vibe inspired by their Southern California roots - the Taco Life was born, and the first Chronic Tacos swung open its doors in 2002. Inspired by badass, 3rd generation recipes, a laid back experience with an irresistible edge, and personal, friendly service -the Taco Life movement continues to spread across the nation.

Lmao fucking Chronic Tacos. Ironically enough, the only places they seem to be in here in Orange County are the predominantly more affluent areas, i.e. Huntington Beach, Laguna Hills, Irvine, Costa Mesa. There aren't any in the predominately minority, poorer cities, i.e. Santa Ana, or the places where you find actual Taquerias on every corner.

Yeah, the one I biked past was in Newport Beach, known for authentic Mexican food. The only one near me is in Old Town Monrovia. Have you tried it? The sick bro vibe completely repelled me from going inside.

Not really, I only went there to try their breakfast tacos a couple times and that was about it. I dunno, nothing's ever really seemed appealing about them. They just came off as a wannabe Chipotle and if I wanted that, then I'd just get Chipotle or Taco Bell/Del Taco.

The neon signs that every white girl has on their dating profiles (and presumably Instagrams as well) are the absolute worst shit I have ever seen. The interior design equivalent of a marvel film.

This country is completely devoid of anything even approaching culture

Mexican food is one of those things that the more expensive it is, the worse it Is. Ideally, find a local Mexican joint with half the neon signs light bulbs out, that's my local joint and it bangs

Family once took me to a "mexican fusion" place where I ordered chili, and the uncooked generic red chili slices they had on top as garnish were spicier than the entire chili, which just tasted like a generic meat stew.

Mexican food in general seems to be the hardest food to get acceptable examples of in Europe, most everything else is usually fine but anything "Mexican"(Or more usually, Tex-Mex" is just absolute dogshit.

      Why people read articles?

I mean, we like to burn brain cells reading them for a short burst of hatred and sense of superiority, almost like huffing industrial glue, but why anyone normal would read them?

I don't wanna read articles that confirm my believes, that's what memes are for. Why would you read a long ass boring shit when a meme does exactly that

This is a weird hill to die on, but I think the local place that makes fancy chef tacos is really good. I will fight everyone here for one of their root vegetable tacos. :meow-anarchist:

The hipstery woodpaneled "gourmet" taco place, located where a ballet studio used to be, created by a guy who owns that fancy restaurant at the bank
