notch should be reminded every day that he bought a wall of candy store-style candy dispensers and everything inside rotted because no one ever visits him

Making Minecraft is the man's one redeemable feature, and after he sold it there was literally 0 reason to be around the glorified 4chan basement dweller

Kinda :cope: considering the game still feels pretty similar to how it did back then.

I mean the entire look and feel of the game has exited for quite a long time. Here's a screenshot I just took from an Infdev release from June 2010: https://i.ibb.co/BPwcGy4/image.png

An even older version from 2009: https://i.ibb.co/BNc1dQc/image.png

Even with his terrible personality, if he put some effort into it he could have funded a bunch of indie developers and gotten a ton of clout and asskissing as a result.

He was partially lonely because he was too much of a creep even for Beverly Hills parties.

My favourite story about notch is when they had the Minecraft celebration shindig in Stockholm and invited everyone involved with the development - past and present - apart from him. Like, they didn't even acknowledge him in the entire evening. And I even think he was in town at the same time - so I imagined him sitting in a car nearby watching the guests go in, bitterly dribbling poison. Also, his fiancé left him soon after the MS deal, got married to someone else IIRC and is, apparently, super-happy lol

That’s because Musk has the insanity of never feeling rich enough.

:lord-bezos-amused: went up on a dick rocket, and while William Shatner was silenced into tears by the view, the :lord-bezos-amused: was obnoxious the entire time and immediately had the idea of Amazon Fulfillment Centers... in space.

Narcissists are insatiable. They are leaky buckets. They want everything and everything is never enough.

        involved

He harasses workers, screams about yellow lines and safety beeps, and is generally a pest to anyone actually doing the rocketry projects outside of marketing.

It's proof that capital accumulation is spiritually deadening and even capitalism's "winners" are left suffering and unfulfilled (though not nearly as much as they deserve to)

it's wild how he's not even awful in a novel, interesting way. he created maybe the most successful video game of all time and he has the beliefs, tastes, and vocabulary of a freshman CS student on reddit.

Notch is the closest to a "self-made" billionaire that we'll ever get. I want to be clear, I'm not making excuses for him. This is as good as it gets. This.

He’s not even self made. Minecraft was originally an Infiniminer clone. I don’t think he’s particularly good at the business side of things either. He was a moderately capable programmer who got really lucky and minimized the sort of squandering that people typically do with such a lucky break.

Every time Notch does a whiny tweet like this just imagine his muffled voice shouting it at the new Minecraft dev team from outside a window, jealous because he's been locked out. Makes it a lot more satisfying.

Notch got exactly what he wanted: Billions of dollars, power, attention, and in turn it was probably the worst thing that ever happened to him. He seems to hate everyone, including himself

I was never really a "fan" of his, but I had some general fondness since I got into game jams from one of his jam timelapses.
