This could be an appliance, a general life principle, whatever!

Yeah, that's the downside. I hate to advocate for a single brand, but I bought a Volcano knockoff once and it was terrible, the bag it came with melted when I tried to use it, and the whole thing died after only a couple of months. By contrast my current one has been going for I think like 7 years now (I had to replace a switch recently, but it's otherwise working just fine).

I bought a Fury 2.0 two years ago and have been really happy with it so far. It's way better for your lungs since you don't inhale nearly as much toxic fumes, has basically no odor, and a single bowl can easily last you 3 or 4 sessions since you can set the initial temp low and then slowly bring it to it's maximum after a few days. It's only a hundred bucks, and I've probably ended up saving money in the long run because I don't need to go to the dispensary as often. I will say the one thing I've noticed with it is that the high it gives you is different from what you'd get by smoking. For a positive, I've never had dry eyes or a dry throat when vaping, but it also doesn't get you nearly as high as you would be when smoking, and it's definitely more of a head high than a body high.
