During the Bush years we had a whole culture war over teaching evolution in schools. This isn't new, it's just something they're bolstering with institutional approval.
Bush years in Texas I remember no one shutting the fuck up about this. Prayer in school and evolution seemed to be all conservatives cared about. At the lower class public school I went to the teachers were actually really good about not indoctrinizing kids into weird religious shit, but the principals and coaches were absolute Christian nuts. Schooling is about to get very weird in the South.
I was there for that and remember some people saying that demons put dinosaur bones in the earth to make people believe in evolution. I was mostly referring to public schools in my country where Christianity is an official religion.
