Many years ago I got banned from an "academic" sub (yes, I know, laugh at me I deserve it) for posting a YouTube video as a source. The YouTube video was a recording of an hour long lecture given by a leading scholar in the field at a university.

When I politely asked the mod about it, they simply doubled down and said "Read the rule, no YouTube videos as sources." Then they banned me when I asked them if they even clicked on the link.

So yes, I think reddit mods are contractually obligated to be the biggest assholes ever.

Yeah that's pretty dumb. What if it's e.g. an econ sub and you linked to a Youtube video of a seminar of some econ prof.

I love how he definitely is proud of his "witty memetic response" which sounds unhinged and completely cringe to any normal human being. God i hate reddit.

    You have been reported.

I am not a bot. I am a Volunteer Reddit moderator. I do not have mod powers but my reports are taken seriously and those who get on my bad side tend to get banned in under 24 hours. I have numerous rules, which you may read in my post history, but 1 is the most important rule of all

    • I am an officer in training, and I expect to be treated the same way I would be with my uniform and badge.

Watch your back and get used to this face kiddo, you’ll be seeing a lot of it.

Subreddit mod is a position that largely self-selects for the worst possible type of person. I got banned from a sub, DMed mods to ask why, they basically told me to guess why comment I made broke which rule, and when I asked if they could just tell me they muted me lol

I think the mods are literally CIA agents

Do you really think that the mods of subreddits which have 100,000+ subscribers wouldn't have the government involved somehow?

They probably know your posting history and your internet history and ban you pre-emptively based on it

I don't think reddit bans IPs that mobile data plans use

That would be terrible for user numbers, also I've never had a problem posting on reddit through my data plan (and I'm perma IP banned since 2019)

Have you been banned site wide? They do ip bans but you should have gotten a message about trying to get around it with another account
