I really hope they just shutter in the US.
Why would you give your algo and other IP to some grifter like Kotick who's bound to leak it to competitors and backdoor it for US intelligence? And for what? To retain the 15% of worldwide users in the US.
Seems like a bad idea to sell.
All that fearmongering in the Congressional hearings about eye tracking and AI recognition of pupil dilation would absolutely come to fruition with Kotick and Altman in the mix.
Really any redscare stuff you hear about tiktok is a confession. I wouldn't be surprised if those were raised as concerns because we already know that's how US-based social media works.
Yesterday that Klon Kitchen CIA dude was trending on twitter talking about how the tiktok app was "100m Chinese monitoring sensors installed in America," and it really just tells you exactly how US Intelligence perceives facebook/twitter installs in Germany or whatever.
Yeah, but how else am I going to use my voice assistant/NSA listening device to dispatch a dive team to sabotage a natural gas pipeline in the north Atlantic?
It would ruin the brand, globally, if you've got American TikTok rebranded to Libs of TikTok
I hope so too. I've heard a few talking heads with a modicum of ability to read the room pull a "umm well actually it's not a ban, they just have to sell it" card since this started to pick up steam. Even goddamn Trump can read the room. If Genocide Joe signs this, it's like the Dems are trying to see how low the youth vote can get.
