Contemporary culture and their own education and training told them that they are very smart, and more than that, are logical and rational and can't be fooled. Thus they are easily fooled.
But also almost impossible to talk to because they're basically the arch-debatebros who think every human discussion should be replaced with computer logic and that all of their arguments are "rational" while yours are "emotional"
