“I wish it need not have happened in my time,” said Frodo. “So do I,” said Gandalf, “and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.”
Something about that bloodthirsty liberal starting with that book, and that passage, really disturbs me.
There's a poll from January in that article that asked Americans what should be the top priority for the President and Congress in 2022.
Addressing climate change was #14. Defending against terrorism was #6.
Unless we see the collapse of capitalism in the global north and subsequent rise of socialism (or maybe a massive Carrington event), the biosphere of this planet is utterly and completely fucked.
I fucking hate these polls and how they chop everything up into separate issues. All kinds of issues contribute to "the economy" but apparently climate change, covid, wars, sanctions, healthcare, and such are just all "lower priority" than "jobs" and "gas prices", so we don't need to think about those things
Lot of folks do seem to crave a big strong Warboss in real life. :frothingfash:
This is the dumbest thing I've ever read, and I've read several other Noah Smith articles before.
This guy thinks that the whole time, all that was done by the government was backed by popular will, and that all we needed to do was convince everyone that the climate was important.
Instead of the fact that America is absolutely not responsive to popular will, and instead caters to the ruling elites and their priorities.
Exactly. Also, a significant part of the reason the GND failed was because party leadership called it unrealistic and ridiculous. Dem voters completely respond to that
I am not going to read the article and proudly proclaim that this guy just watched Ghost in the Shell SAC_2045 and then decided the whole global sustainable war economy thing sounded tight
Love how most Americans would support higher gas taxes but not higher taxes on the wealthy :bootlicker:
Political science departments should be heavily fined for churning out people like Noah. At least he's already living in a hell of his own creation where he goes online every single day to say something stupid and gets made fun of.
