While that looks ridiculous, and you still shouldn’t have emerald lawns in the god damn desert, lawns and residential use are not the problem in the west. The problem is agriculture. Las Vegas is actually amazing at water management, the problem is alfalfa farmers in Nevada growing one of the thirstiest crops in the middle of the desert. Tbh most of my knowledge on water issues in the west comes from this documentary which is unfortunately behind a paywall. It’s very good though, I highly recommend it.
despite being a completely stupid idea, las vegas will continue to be seen as "awesome" right up until the drinking water taps shut off for the people who make the city go.
