The internet used to be nothing but comments sections. Arguably it's everything else on the internet that ruined the internet.

And THIS is called a "profile", it's a place where people can go to learn all about you. :1984:

What's that? CSS? Oh, no no. That would violate the smooth uniform aesthetic of our pure white interface.

Good thing :hexbear-retro: dot net doesn't load profiles most of the time.

    Hey, sextuple-Ph. D here:

My fifth Master's Thesis was on comment sections, and they're actually a great place to source information from qualified professionals.

Sourse: Six Ph. Ds, and forty years experience designing comment sections

idk I think the expansion of the internet and it being so widely available just showed how awful a lot of people are. The same type of people were making angry calls to the radio station or letters to the editor. Listen to some of C-SPAN's viewer calls and they all sound like something out of Youtube comment section.

Before the internet had comment sections, it was all comments, only. Arguably, the implementation of graphic elements and the relegation of comments to sections are, what ruined the internet.

    comment superiority gang

The first reddit thread after the site introduced comments was full of complaints about how comment sections were gonna ruin the site

    Were they right? Maybe

idk I get a lot of info from people arguing in the comments, can't count how many times I've seen a reddit post also be directly and immediately refuted in the comments too
