    Like Ukraine, Taiwan is a pawn that allows the US to fight a proxy war against a state that poses a challenge to the smooth functioning of its imperial project? We're talking about westerns here, so supporting imperialism is core to their political identity. Ukraine and Taiwan are basically like feeder clubs in football, you might not follow them and they might play in a league you've never heard of, but if the game is televised you're going to support them

      Taiwanese don't like to be a pawn of the US but they don't have a choice since China keeps on claiming they'll invade.

        Yeah, sorry, you're right. I should have said that the US treats Taiwan and Ukraine as pawns rather than them being pawns because the latter erases the complexity of the situation in both cases
