There are way larger crowds that are telling her to go the fuck home but I have a feeling we won't see those anywhere.

Would be way funnier if the PLA exercises around Taiwan throw around so much live ordinance of all types that it makes it impossible for Pelosi to safely leave.

        https://www.theguardian.com/world/2022/aug/02/mood-shifts-in-taiwan-as-nancy-pelosi-visit-raises-fears-of-war?amp;amp;amp

But then Pelosi’s visit was confirmed and the mood shifted. News sites ran polls, with almost two-thirds of UDN’s respondents saying the visit was destabilising. Talk radio discussed preparation and escape plans, and walked listeners through their growing anxieties. At one point more than 300,000 people around the world were tracking her flight on FlightRadar24, before the site crashed under load.

Hundreds of civilians gathered across multiple city sites to welcome or protest against her arrival. Outside the airport, Taiwan independence groups held signs saying “I love Pelosi” and “shut up China”.

The largest crowd gathered outside the Grand Hyatt, where Pelosi was due to stay. The turnout was larger than any expected and drew a large police presence but remained peaceful. Well organised, vociferous protesters held signs calling Pelosi a warmonger, and chanted “Yankee go home” from across the road. Heavy-set men wandered the crowd wearing body cameras or holding phones aloft, capturing faces among the crowd.

This is the one I saw. Also lol at the guardian calling them "well organized, vociferous protestors" insinuating they were CPC agents or some shit.

They always overblow the celebratory crowds. The media blew up the Pro-Trump protesters when Kamala came to my country and said "don't come." In reality, pro-Trumpers are a big minority even among our conservative population.

Because the focus has been on how brave she is for holding up Taiwanese democracy. I've seen time and time again how easily swayed people are by speeches instead of actions.

Non online libs don’t even know about the husband insider trading stuff and when you tell them, they’re like, but what are you gonna do - the only other option is Trump.

They also forget inconvenient facts really easily - and when you remind them they kind of say oh yeah but nevertheless, unironically.

...wouldn't the population of Taiwan be discouraged by the western response to that?

It basically amounted to small groups of war tourists from western countries, lots of money spent on weapons shipments which may or may not have made it, and public browbeatings while Ukraine itself gets torn asunder (and nothing else)

Redditors don't give a shit about Taiwan though, its just something they use to jerk themselves off with because it makes China mad or something. The only reason they would take issue with China invading Taiwan would be that they can't get their vibeo gane GPUs any more. EDIT: Taiwanese people for the most part (large plurality if not majority) prefer the status quo, so they are more sensible and try not to get themselves killed. This provocation is because of the DPP and US being dipshits.

Also 中山 must be rolling in his grave to see how pathetic and milquetoast the KMT has become. Blue skin green heart cowards.

In fairness, I'm sure Dr. Sun's corpse has been long disintegrated from the rotational force. Given that one of his protégés tore up the first United Front and started the Civil War, while the other became a collaborating toadie for Japan.

Like Ukraine, Taiwan is a pawn that allows the US to fight a proxy war against a state that poses a challenge to the smooth functioning of its imperial project? We're talking about westerns here, so supporting imperialism is core to their political identity. Ukraine and Taiwan are basically like feeder clubs in football, you might not follow them and they might play in a league you've never heard of, but if the game is televised you're going to support them

Taiwanese don't like to be a pawn of the US but they don't have a choice since China keeps on claiming they'll invade.

Yeah, sorry, you're right. I should have said that the US treats Taiwan and Ukraine as pawns rather than them being pawns because the latter erases the complexity of the situation in both cases
