I feel like she used to be a darling of the old sub, but that seems to have stopped at some point and I now rarely see her mentioned.

People use this term too much, but her channel is honestly a grift at this point. She's coasting off a popularity gained during a time when people were panicking about incels and the alt-right, and she made a couple good videos.

Now, I can't figure out who her videos are actually for. What does she talk about, meaningfully, except for herself? Her entire last video was basically reading off wikipedia and stalling for time to increase time-watched. At a time when justice is a really important issue, and there's lots of easy, good takes to pull people left. And the gap between videos is pretty long compared to people who put in about the same amount of effort.

She was never really that good, because her whole schtick was that she was a disenchanted leftist, seeking out a new position that would actually be popular and effective. When, in reality, she's like succdem adjacent, and either hasn't read, or doesn't understand, Marx or any of the left thinkers she's claimed to be beyond.

Like most of Breadtube, that's fine if it's just a stepping stone to further radicalization. I definitely needed those.

But her actual audience is like unironic left liberals. And she herself has complained, in her video on Men and masculinity, that her former audience has moved further left than her. And she never wanted to be shoehorned into a left wing channel, as it would've limited its growth.

The last video I remember mostly liking was on Opulence. That one felt like there was synergy between all the work that goes into costumes and aesthetics, and an actual message.

Otherwise, she's just kind of a left adjacent, and honestly also left punching, personality vlogger now.

There's nothing wrong with that but, there's not much left about it. If she limits her left punching, at least she's not doing harm. But I wouldn't recommend her to someone I'm trying to pull left, which is the one thing breadtubers are supposed to be good for.

IMO she's never wanted to be shoehorned into being a left wing channel, but not because of limiting growth, but because I think she wants to have the flexibility to address issues that aren't specifically political or otherwise connected to "left" issues. That's just my read on it.

I think that was her excuse, but she never actually made the pivot.

Ironically, the only reason people still watch her is the very thing she didn't want her channel to be.

Someone like Innuendo Studios actually manages to straddle that line. He makes left leaning stuff, then makes something about adventure games, or film criticism.

Contra basically can't talk about anything without it having that left context baggage, I think mainly because she's afraid any change will lose her subs and attention. I'm sure she could make a rad video just about makeup, something she's clearly passionate about. But she doesn't.
