New dev diary on characters https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/developer-diary/victoria-3-dev-diary-53-characters.1537695/
The only thing I know about Victoria 3 is that worker-owned economies are the most efficient in-game, while capitalist economies will just keep funneling money to the shareholders who do nothing useful with it.
r/neolib was screeching about it for weeks.
So I'm genuinely excited to check it out!
In my experience, Victoria 2 was a lot like that as well. With a planned economy and understanding of the game's mechanics, you could turn your nation into an industrial juggernaut, while the free market policies tended to result in a barely-functional mess.
The game still artificially buffed market economy ideologies. So it's so-so.
Just wanted to take a moment to say that despite Paradox Brain and most of their game's fans being insane armchair reactionary generals, the developers at the Paradox Studios are not shy about admitting what makes their titles "work" is using a Marxist HistMat analysis to translate conditions and events into game mechanics. This is not to say they are necessarily principled Marxists, of course. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hYzxcf_ZL_g

Karl Marx is good. Now here's a minute of waffle because heaven forbid someone confuse me for a communist.
Lol perhaps "Not shy" was an imprecise way to put it, maybe "may be a bit sheepish about it, yet still admit"
It was an interesting talk though, thanks for linking it. It's just so telling about the depths of anticommunist indoctrination that a lib can't even bring up an economist/philosopher who died decades before the first death recorded by the Black Book without going so far out of their way to disavow everything he's associated with.
They better have John Brown. :john-brown:
I would love to do a slave revolt turned revolution run.
Victoria 2 had an event for John Brown's last raid (on Harpers Ferry) and it had to happen for it to be possible to have the American Civil War.
Is this game cool? Been eyeballing it a little but I assume a single match is like Stellaris and takes several days to finish.
Not out yet so hard to say. There was a leaked version a while ago but it was super unstable and all of the Paradox communities banned discussing it, so there's not a lot to go off of there. As for time to finish a game, yeah, it'll be a while. I think Stellaris is either the shortest or second shortest Paradox game.
I played the leaked build. it was pretty decent, had really good bones but still buggy. They have almost a year to clean it up though, so I'm definitely excited for the full release.
at r/victoria3leaks they've not only got a link to download the game, but a series of community patches! it's still way too unfinished to truly enjoy, but it's something.
I’ve never played a Victoria game but I’m excited for this to be my first
Want a communist USA under Willich declaring war on a Communist UK under Marx for revisionism.
