I don't think anyone is against the principle of good faith questions and social commentary during times of change. but asking questions in bad faith and dehumanizing people in the course of "having your say" will result in others determining you are an asshole. why can't these people grasp this?

Yeah, people ask me questions about being trans all the time and i don't mind explaining at all. I'm the only trans person any of my friends know atm, ofc they're curious and ofc they do not automatically have a complete understanding of the trans experience. Far from it. Just yesterday i had to explain what cis means. It happens and i don't mind that at all because most people ask me such stuff in good faith, are quick to learn and often intuitively come to the right conclusions when you just lay out what we go through. when i explain irl how my country's name change laws work, absolutely nobody says "oh yes, that makes perfect sense, if judges wouldn't want to see expert opinions from two psychologists and wouldn't make sure that you're actually a real woman by asking you intrusive questions about your sex life, everybody would just invade women's bathrooms" because you have to spend 20 hours a day on terf twitter to cultivate that kind of brainsworms.
