I have ADHD and the visual reminder would help a lot with dishes
There are magnets with sliders that say like Dirty or Clean in big red or green letters. That might help. My mother has ADHD and uses one.
I fucking HATE these things. The dishwasher already has a clean/dirty light. One of my exes used one of these, and the result was that the built-in thing would constantly be out of sync with the magnet indicator and you'd just have to look inside the dishwasher to see which was correct.
look at fancypants over here with a light on the dishwasher, probably a dishwasher that wasn't manufactured in 1979 like mine
it's true mine was made in the glorious PRC in 2015
(they've gotten a lot more efficient in past decades, you may want to upgrade. see obligatory technology connections vids)
yeah but I rent an apartment and my landlady is cheap, I use the dishwasher she installed here 40 years ago
As a dishwasher wtf dude my job is hard enough just let me finish up and get out of here god damn
....crazy ass cooks asking to look inside me after close.....
i initially read it like that too and was like wtf they wanna see organs to be sure
It would serve a dual purpose because you could get high and watch your dishes wash
There are little countertop dishwashers that do. I dunno about the full size ones though.
I want one too because my cat is extremely suspicious of the dishwasher and watches it like a hawk the whole time it runs... I feel like a viewing window would enhance the experience a lot
I have a little notecard that says "CLEAN" on one side that I put above the dishwasher when I run it. Then I flip it over and move it away when I unload it.
After I run the dishwasher I leave it "on" until I put away all the dishes, then I turn it off. If I see the blue light and the cycle isn't running, I know there are dishes that need to be put away. If you haven't already tried, see if the dishwasher has a light that can help remind you.
Oh that’s awesome. Mine definitely doesn’t have an on switch but that sounds like a much easier feature to shop for
You can just get a magnet. Right side up for "clean", upside down for "dirty". Much cheaper.
Mine's a countertop dishwasher so it's a little weird. In a previous apartment, I had a normal under-counter dishwasher that had a "clean" light that would light up after a cycle and turn off when you closed it again. Intention being once you open it post-wash, you don't close it fully until you've put away the clean dishes. That won't help you remember to put away dishes right after a cycle, since you can't see the light until you first open the dishwasher, but it will save you the trouble of remembering whether dishes are dirty later on.
KitchenAid had (has? I can't find it in stock anywhere) one that has a lit glass window that you could see the interior with. The KDTM384ESS but it retailed at like $1,600. Similar models probably exist but you're gonna want to look for a 'window' rather than a fully transparent door. Grime and the seal eventually going bad I think would make most companies avoid such a thing.
I have a little personal dishwasher (like a small one for apartments) most of the front is a window so I can see inside :)
Do you need the cue to run the dishwasher, or to empty it? There are a bunch of cheap solutions you could do (it would probably be very expensive to get a window in a dishwasher door and the interior still wouldn't be very visible) but they all require a 5 second habit alteration.
To empty it. I’m good about running it once it’s full. But then I’ve gotta leave it be for an hour and it doesn’t beep or anything when it’s done
Have you considered hanging something very visible, like a red bandana or a hoodie over the door, when there's something you need to attend to soon? That's my strategy for when I leave the kitchen with something cooking on low.
Current dishwasher has a door that automatically opens a bit to vent steam after it is done. That'd work as a substitute for your purposes I'm sure.
