    It was a bit closer than one would like, but Ilhan essentially weathered the perfect storm.

    • Samuels came into the race with a ton of name recognition and political capital.
    • The AIPAC may not have been involved, but there was still a lot of money coming to Samuels from wealthy and/or conservative donors.
    • The StarTribune is the biggest media influence in town, and has been fighting Ilhan for 4 years, and gave Samuels a lot of good press.
    • The riots and police issues have been marinating for two years, giving libs and conservatives a lot of ammunition against any "Defund" candidate.
    • Moderates have a lot of momentum after Frey won and the public safety amendment failed just last year.
