  • Any action that results in taking a life is a tragedy. That it is necessary for people to be killed during a war in order to prevent the slaughter of innocent people is ludicrously stupid in an age where there are enough resources to support the world's population. Executions during an ongoing revolution fall into a gray area that may qualify as self defense, as letting the person live may result in the deaths of more people.

  • In defense of what they went with, I think the solid blue is much less cluttered than the tricolor. Also, when you get down to what the colors represented, Minnesota doesn't have a monopoly on snow (white), or forests (green). What it is notable for though, is having an outrageous number of lakes and for being the source of one of the most important rivers on the continent.

  • I always think it should be guided by maturity and life experience. That works with the 18 cutoff because that's when a lot of people first start to live more or less independently. I also think that maturity varies greatly in smaller age ranges when we're younger, but then there are diminishing returns starting in maybe your mid-20s or so, so age gaps between adults don't matter that much.

  • People are too caught up in the extremes. Obviously people shouldn't be forced to work in an office when working from home is a legitimate alternative, and commuting can be a pretty ugly routine, but there are benefits to working at the same place and time as others. Anecdotally, I work 99% from home. Is it nice to wake up later, wear sweats all day, and make quick errands? Yes. But I also struggle to focus, feel like I'm on the clock constantly, and haven't made a single friend since the abrupt end of my senior year of college 3 years ago.
