Cleaning up my room and house in prep, got my snacks ready. Poisonous concoction and then eventually full time heist. Only really have today to play hard but I wanna be set up so my free time for the next week or so can be spent getting them wonderful dopamine hits finding loot.
There is something very wrong with me
I really wish I could get into that game. Everyone telling me to plan out a build ahead of time and the sheer complexity of doing that really puts me off.
Also the esoteric as fuck currency system does my head in.
I would definitely call Poe convoluted rather than complex. Bloated too, every other dumb fucking league mechanic is now permanent with its own shards. The trading is also dogshit. There was a period where I kind of just mindlessly played Payday 2 for hours despite not having much fun and I think that was more or less the same thing that happened with poe for me.
I'm one of the weirdos who really likes trading but my introduction to online gaming was EverQuest in 2000 where we had to barter in the same zone and I figured out I could gear myself by sitting around and buying cheap gear to resell. I do think they need to make currency exchanging automatic, it's absurd that currency bots exist simply because of the annoyance and the profitability of doing mass exchanges
I think you might be fine if you just jump into the game and try whatever looks good to you. If you want to make it to the endgame following a build guide is recommended but that's too much of a commitment if you don't even know if you'll like the basic mechanics and the feel of the game.
edit: this aged badly wait it out until they fix the game as it's currently in a very bad state
Yeah it's absurdly complex at this point. When I started I managed to get through the storyline of the game just abusing minions and some spell, but it's really best to find whatever builds are likely going to be meta to start with and copy someone else.
It doesn't help that you need a publicly maintained program on the side to reference for builds (Path of Building). Once you get to the endgame though you just spend time learning stuff until you get it. I still don't have a great grasp on crafting, myself, despite playing for years.
I hate this league shit because it makes every character I make feel fucking useless when "There's a new league" and I have to start over and do the same fucking act 1 bullshit over and over kill me just thinking about it
But then Im stuck with no new content and a quarter of the player base. I just wish the leagues were longer than 3 months. I literally have not even completed the game because of restarting for new leagues and having to do the same act 1-2 bullshit all over again, it has killed almost all desire I have ever had to do it again
Can't be worse than the time I started as miner as they bugged the blasting rod unique or whatever and it didn't work right at all, literally quit the league right then and there.
Ok maybe I came back like a month later
I got so lucky last league I hit a Mageblood from Gwen so it's all gonna be downhill anyway :angery:
I haggled with tujen over a mirror shard two leagues ago and he took it away. Also nearly quit that night.
If I find a mageblood I'm gonna scream like I won the lottery but then remember my real material conditions and cry a little bit
I wouldn't blame you. Someone here needs to do a Marxist critique of RMT
I'm skipping this league. Too many nerfs to things I like and not enough buffs to compensate. Might be back for 3.20 though!
Yeah I'm kind of sweating over the nerfs to harvest/exalts. Seems like good gear is going to be much harder to come by to the point where I have to wonder if they're going to change things a bit later on.
If it's really bad I may drop the league myself because I'm not interested in devoting more time to a game that's already very time intensive just because the very top end of players have it too easy in the devs eyes
My thoughts exactly. I am very much a casual gamer these days. I don't have hundreds of hours and mountains of currency to sink into a build.
Currently on an online class setting up my loot filter lol.
Gonna go ED Cont Trickster into RF once I have some money from expedition.
I think I'd have gone RF if I didn't decide to be doing all heist going forward. Not that RF is bad at generic heisting, but I'm gonna change into a no dps all zoom pathfinder build to Speedrun heists like some weirdo.
Love insane tanky builds though. I made a CoC icelance inquisitor two leagues back that didn't have crazy dps but was not that expensive to get started and was nearly unkillable. Abused that shield with es on block, name is escaping me. Ideally later in the league I'm gonna make some CoC build where I can just hold down cyclone and press little else bc clicking as little as possible and blowing up screens is all anyone wants from this game
I'm actually thinking my plan is ED Cont (levelled to A8 today before calling it quits) into RF into CoC Ice Nova, all with Trickster. He's so versatile now that I should be able to comfortably run all those builds as I acquire more money. Currently I'm worth all of 7c though so gonna have to get on the grindset tomorrow. I'm also a tank enjoyer, used to be all about zooms until I ran a dex stacking league starter with no life that made me hate squishy builds so much I've pledged to never play anything that can't tank a shaper slam again.
I get the feeling trickster is going to be really good, like maybe they tuned it to be a little too good this league so that's probably gonna work out. I cleared acts in about 6 hours (feels insane) but I need to work some this weekend so I won't be able to play around with the wonky early economy really. Actually I need to see if I can convert my chaos into divines now before the price gets out of hand over the next few days...
