The proto-fash contingent is extremely ideologically united and will blindly accept the the "sermons" of anyone who exudes sufficient confidence and authority while also telling their audience exactly what they want to hear. It's a perfect storm for forming a cult-like movement, especially because their base is already far more susceptible to it.
