surely suffering should never be wished on anyone. Self defence goes to use of violence to keep yourself and others safe but suffering is still a thing to minimise
I want capitalists, landlords, the people who destroyed public transit and will cause the death of us all through climate collapse to suffer

why though I want them to stop doing it sure and be prevented from counterrevolution but what do I get from their suffering and what does it benefit those they've hurt
Sometimes a little retribution is okay for those who cause and benefit from mass suffering
but what does it actually achieve
Feel good for my monkey brain to see them get what they deserve
yeah but that's all punitive justice gets you. Cruel punishments don't make anything better for anyone a focus on making sure people can't be a danger to others is more practical
I want retribution for oppression, it's not like I'm arguing for punitive shit for petty crime
yeah I'm not unsympathetic I just think it's a distraction from wanting to help victims of oppression
