      He's a guy who helped kill the king in the English Civil War and then ruled as a kind of English Napoleon for a while, but he lacked the political vision to establish a system that would outlive him so once he was gone his followers fumbled the ball and the English got their monarchy back.

      here's a pretty good summary he's an immensely controversial figure as in England he's associated with the reforms on the monarchy where the police aren't allowed to cut off body parts but in Ireland he's noted for a brutal war and string of massacres
