I never watched the show (and after this, could never recommend it), but I enjoyed the podcast.
Absolutely not, they take the damage from the cognito hazard so you don't have to.
Probably wouldn't hurt to watch one or two of the "Big" episodes, so you can at least get a taste of what they're referring to. Like, if nothing else, you get to know who the hell all these people are.
But generally, no. Especially if you're starting from the top, there's nothing they don't tear down mercilessly. Its pretty comprehensive.
