Today and tomorrow I'm gonna be doing some prep as I'm moving in a few weeks. The updates will continue as planned on Monday.

Resources For Understanding The War Beyond The Bulletins

Defense Politics Asia's youtube channel and their map, who is an independent youtuber with a mostly neutral viewpoint.

Moon of Alabama, which tends to have good analysis (though also a couple bad takes here and there)

Understanding War and the Saker: neo-conservative sources but their reporting of the war (so far) seems to line up with reality better than most liberal sources.

Alexander Mercouris, who does daily videos on the conflict and, unlike most western analysts, has some degree of understanding on how war works. He is a reactionary, however.

On the ground: Patrick Lancaster, an independent journalist reporting in the Ukrainian warzones.

Unedited videos of Russian/Ukrainian press conferences and speeches.

Moon of Alabama, Naked Capitalism, Richard Medhurst. Those are like the 3 based commentators on this conflict who are actually lefties.

Certain others are pretty neutral/inoffensive as well such as DPA

It’s pretty fun watching Chuds praising Xi Jingping for his geopolitics and you can just tell they are choking on their words

Sounds like they had a bad take, but I’ve definitely seen them say straight up pro-Soviet and communist things before. I think for someone outside the country it might be easier to get cultural wires crossed and get confused about something that happens in another culture, not defending any take they may have had.

Also, might be news to some but boomer communists from ex-soviet areas tend to be a bit behind the times on cultural issues. That’s definitely the light that I see him in, and he still has good insight into the topics he discusses and has not said anything reactionary that I have seen - but mostly avoids those topics

Andrei Martyanov is kind of that; not sure if he's a communist but he sure as hell hates the West and neocons. And he's the most stereotypically Russian boomer guy I've ever seen in my life; he's the mold that they use at the Boomer Ex-Soviet factory where they produce these people
