In a school where a family member of mine works they have done something else. Each class gets its own bathroom that they are responsible for decorating, in that way they feel ownership and responsibility and treat it much better than before. Some classes go all in and put up plants, potpourri and nice scented soap to replace the boring municipal-issue soap.
