I'm prey sure that such a system is more expensive than whatever the costs of vandalism might be. Also this feels like a way to scare trans kids.

It's not like there's a longstanding track record where we use one 'crises' as an excuse to broaden the state surveillance apparatus

Also these fucking things apparently could cost north of a couple k per DOOR

Looking around, the lowest I could find per door was like $1,200 or so...what kind of vandalism are you having where this is more cost effective lmao?

can't wait until they all get broken, you know, by vandalism, and then nobody can get in to take a shit

Looking forward to them installing security cameras everywhere and hiring a bunch of pigs to monitor them to 'protect their investment'

When I was young my school tried the policy to lock all toilets. You had to get a key for it and there you would also get 1 roll of toilet paper.

          Was absolutely mad.

I don't even think this is about surveillance. You're already a registered student in a school full of cameras moving between classes that take daily attendance. Who the fuck is even going to be checking these log files? It just looks like an excuse to piss money away on a non-problem for the benefit of some chud with a finger-print scanner installation business.

ya my first thought was that this was to scare trans kids not for stopping vandalism or whatever :thinking-about-it:

Good thing they sanitize these scanners after each toilet use, else they would be a fomites for any endemic diseases going around

In a school where a family member of mine works they have done something else. Each class gets its own bathroom that they are responsible for decorating, in that way they feel ownership and responsibility and treat it much better than before. Some classes go all in and put up plants, potpourri and nice scented soap to replace the boring municipal-issue soap.

But no tech bros are getting their beaks wet in this was so clearly the Australian method is better.

21st century governments have not yet found a problem they aren't thrilled to throw incredibly invasive dystopian surveillance at.

Putting a big turnstill up in the restroom and facial recognition software in all the toilets and a special chemical sensor to identify you by your poop, but also we don't have enough money for the school lunch program or the teacher's pensions.

Its easier and more expensive to break a fingerprint scanner that to power sander off a slur.

my school just stopped cleaning the toilets. School toilets are for the kids too stupid to go behind the shed to take drugs and nothing else
