I suddenly understand what Mark Fisher was yappin' about with Hauntology.

The show is like carbon monoxide. It's very peaceful.

I think the YKK anime is the perfect length with only four episodes total, it's just long enough to leave a lasting impression but still short enough to not feel like a replacement for the manga. In fact I got for Christmas the first volume of the manga's deluxe edition, and I breezed right through it. YKK is an absolutely glorious work, there's a lot to be said about the themes of gynoid fiction, the way that YKK handles the end of humanity, and the way YKK goes hand in hand with Aria series.

I'm not sure if I'll ever read the manga (I just generally prefer film to comics) and I'm pretty unfamiliar with Aria (although I guess I have a passing familiarity with gynoid fiction just from cultural osmosis) but I loved all the deep-fried Pre-Vapourwave 90's anime aesthetics combined with all the unsettling details. The way the show's directed reminds me a lot of Serial Experiments Lain and Kino's Journey, which are some of my favourite shows so I'm honestly kicking myself for not getting round to watching this sooner.

The Manga is much longer but keeps the vibes going I highly recommend it
