Resources For Understanding The War Beyond The Bulletins

Defense Politics Asia's youtube channel and their map, who is an independent youtuber with a mostly neutral viewpoint.

Moon of Alabama, which tends to have good analysis (though also a couple bad takes here and there)

Understanding War and the Saker: neo-conservative sources but their reporting of the war (so far) seems to line up with reality better than most liberal sources.

Alexander Mercouris, who does daily videos on the conflict and, unlike most western analysts, has some degree of understanding on how war works. He is a reactionary, however.

On the ground: Patrick Lancaster, an independent journalist reporting in the Ukrainian warzones.

Unedited videos of Russian/Ukrainian press conferences and speeches.

thank god that I haven't subjected myself to political subreddits of any kind in the last year.

A few years back, like 2016-ish, when I was a very politically confused lib who had pseudo-socialist views but didn't really know what socialism was yet, when I occasionally looked at subreddits, there was quite a lot of sentiment that America shouldn't be the world police, that we need to use the UN more to resolve conflicts and disputes, that - gasp - America might not be all that good (I'm thinking of that video of that series that I think was written by Aaron Sorkin, where the dude's going "America is X in child mortality, Y in education, Z in test scores, etc etc, America sucks" - that video went around a few times).

All of that disappeared in the last couple years, really starting with the Xinjiang propaganda being spread there. Obviously the really ghoulish subreddits where liberals were abound were the first to fall to it, but the left-ish and then outright left communities fell as well. Maybe the chapo subreddit would have similarly met that fate had we not expressed that we didn't like slave-owners, unlike most other redditors.

Regardless, I think the sum total of the revolutionary energy of redditors is about enough to lift a pebble for a few seconds. The revolution won't be the result of a bunch of gold-awarding dipshits.

Chapo subreddit was going in the opposite direction, becoming increasingly tankie. This is one of the reasons I suspect it was banned, the squishies lost control and started reporting it and causing drama.

Genzedong, MoreTankieChapo and Full Communism were similarly quarantined or banned for these reasons.

You cannot oppose American empire on Reddit, it’s an unwritten rule and the admins will find an excuse to destroy you if you do
