Imagine having the cojones to not only pay thousands of dollars for custom decals, but have them be weeb pin-up art, AND drive it to around to your workplace... AND HAVE THE FUCKING DECALS BE OF MIDDLE SCHOOL GIRLS IN SWIMSUITS bruh.

I started to drop out of the anime/manga fandom roughly around that time, and that was a primary reason: I did not want to associate with that kind of fandom, and because the internet was still kind of nascent, that was the dominant voice around me (the anime clubs, local conventions) telling me I was wrong for being disgusted with them.

Sure, not everyone said exactly that, but no one else challenged or criticized that as far as I know. It was a big club of :awooga: and tea leaf reading about how deep and mysterious glorious Nippon cartoons were while focusing on the coarsest and creepiest titillation aspects of them, a dire omen for what would be the primary focus of the industry in years ahead of that. As soon as "mai waifu" was said on Azumaga Daioh, I could feel a tidal shift that made the loudest and most prominent part of the fandom even worse.

Yep same. I've found that I've pretty much dropped almost everything relating to the island of Japan when it comes to comics or shows. Like i even struggle to find the motivation to watch even 5 minutes of those once is a blue moon rare gems that actually do their field credit.

At this point I've mainly stuck with Korean manhwa and Chinese manhua. And mainly wuxia at that.
