Imagine having the cojones to not only pay thousands of dollars for custom decals, but have them be weeb pin-up art, AND drive it to around to your workplace... AND HAVE THE FUCKING DECALS BE OF MIDDLE SCHOOL GIRLS IN SWIMSUITS bruh.

:libertarian-approaching: but it's weebs. In other words just plain :libertarian-approaching: lmao

Remember that one part in the old ending where :shinji-screm: said he was fucked up after jerking off to the body of an unconscious teenager?

That was Anno, directly addressing the otaku in the audience, while burning the franchise down. :miyazaki-laugh:

Even so, the otaku watching at the time almost unanimously decided that it was actually deeper and more mysterious than that in a way that they didn't have to feel bad about. :pathetic:

I know that, but I was swamped by the former camp years ago in high school and college. It wasn't just missing the point, it was warping the point. I lost count of how many times creepy fucks said that they wish they (CW: creepy weebery)

        spoiler

had clones of Rei they could violate and then reset her over and over again so there's always fresh virginity to reclaim.

I started to drop out of the anime/manga fandom roughly around that time, and that was a primary reason: I did not want to associate with that kind of fandom, and because the internet was still kind of nascent, that was the dominant voice around me (the anime clubs, local conventions) telling me I was wrong for being disgusted with them.

Sure, not everyone said exactly that, but no one else challenged or criticized that as far as I know. It was a big club of :awooga: and tea leaf reading about how deep and mysterious glorious Nippon cartoons were while focusing on the coarsest and creepiest titillation aspects of them, a dire omen for what would be the primary focus of the industry in years ahead of that. As soon as "mai waifu" was said on Azumaga Daioh, I could feel a tidal shift that made the loudest and most prominent part of the fandom even worse.

            :soypoint-1: :hentai-free: :soypoint-2:

Yep same. I've found that I've pretty much dropped almost everything relating to the island of Japan when it comes to comics or shows. Like i even struggle to find the motivation to watch even 5 minutes of those once is a blue moon rare gems that actually do their field credit.

At this point I've mainly stuck with Korean manhwa and Chinese manhua. And mainly wuxia at that.

Late but Anno is a massive Otaku and likes fanservice, waifus and horny shots. One of the themes of Eva being "Please for the love of god go outside a bit more and dont fall THAT deep into escapism" doesnt mean Anno disaproves of escapism, his waifus or has issues with sexualization of his and other characters , even minors. Anno hating otaku and end of eva being an attack on them and a deconstruction of they psyche or character sexualization and waifu culture or whatever in anime is pretty much a western online modern reading sadly even if it would be cool if it was true. Any look at anno's history as a creator or anime fan and his actual words points away from the idea that he is against waifu culture, underage sexualization of his or any characters and otaku-isms (only their utter most antisocial expressions ) .

"EoE was just Anno trolling muh otaku"

nah the franchise did the opposite of burn down after EoE lmfao that scene in particular was either

      a) A misinterpretation of "weakness" as inevitably leading to human evil.

      b) A fucked up character arc reaching its apex.

caveat being im not running defense of pedophilia which should be punishable by death. The fact that grown men jack off to sexualized representations of teenagers is disturbing to say the least

Imagine spending all the money to buy this truck and get the decals done, and then still including the dumb fan service character from the rebuilds.

A job at the end of the world. A salaried killer for a big petroleum company. I don't know why I did half the things I've done, but I know this is where I belong, surrounded by my own. Ex-cons, fugitives, drifters, assholes. Men unfit for mankind.

Wasn't this the kinda stuff Hideaki Anno was trying to criticize? That this "DAE le SEX!?!?!?!" culture among weebs is unhealthy?
