Don't even let him within a few kilometers of the studio. :nyet:

They just have an odd relationship with race. Full metal alchemist could not have more obviously been in Europe but they got an Asian cast, then they made death note in America, which was actively detrimental. I am happy this shows some actors who look like the characters though. Unlike the last one.

Crackers in general have an "odd relationship" with race. Think about all the weirdos who chose to die on the hill that ScarJo is a legit Major Kusanagi. Or the ones who scream up and down about how "anime characters are hu-wiiiiiiite" because a character has colorful hair despite speaking only Japanese, going to school in Japan, and having a name like Takemura Jiro.

that's true. I remember someone on this site yelling at me that anime characters were white and getting super pissed when I talked about mixed-race people living in japan with blonde hair.

I think for Death Note I can certainly imagine the son of a police chief being a mass murderer out here. Disclaimer: I haven't seen the movie so I'm talking out of my ass

The big issue with Death Note wasn't even that it was set in America with a white cast...its that none of the characters acted at all like they were supposed to. Light is a bullied social outcast...which is basically the antithesis of who his character is and where his god complex comes from and makes a lot of the story completely incoherent thematically. If you changed the characters names the movie would still suck but maybe if they had leaned even more into Americanizing it and just did a completely different story with the same premise of the death note it could have at least existed on its own independantly of the Anime/Manga.

They're able to narrow down roughly where kira is both by crimes he reacts to and language he used. English is kinda the default language and American news goes everywhere, so the case would take longer
