Yeah, the waiter image is extra funny, as someone who has worked kitchens for over a decade, I can say with a lot of confidence that if your waiter is a dude there's a solid 75% chance they ain't straight. When I worked as a canvasser I never approached straight white dudes. If you had earings and a backwards ballcap, I'd approach you, but boat shoes and a polo? Forgetaboutit. Tall straight dudes were the worst.
That's what they told me when I took a job in a restaurant - I wasn't suited to it because I wouldn't take the customers shit, but the immigrants would. Evidently this was a big deal.
