dextromethorphan (DXM) is used as a hallucinogen that can be bought over-the-counter. however medicine often combine DXM with acetaminophen so people can suffer liver damage trying to trip.
if you want to try this drug make sure it is the ONLY active ingredient. its also addictive unlike more conventional hallucinogens so be careful with overusing. that being said, if you dose it right to hit the 2nd plateau, it is a very nice trip that feels like you are crossfaded but with mild hallucinogenic effects. 3rd plateau supposedly has heavier hallucinogenic effects and you prob shouldnt try 4th plateau as ppl say its dangerous and can cause long term side effects.
I love America.
"God forbids having fun, so to stop you from ever having fun we're going to put literal fucking poison in this otherwise safe drug so that if you try to have fun with it you will die in an extremely slow and painful way"
i think its more of a utility thing than a "prevent you from getting high" thing. DXM alone is just a cough suppressant, you need other drugs for stuff like pain relief (acetaminophen) and decongestion (phenylephedrine). plus DXM by itself is really easy to buy. Delsym is a common one, but its extended release so the trip lasts twice as long and you need double the dose.
I remember a friend telling me in high school that Coricidin could stop your heart. Always had to go for the Robotusin DM even though it tasted like shit.
Acetaminophen is good stuff, I took it when I had serious 40°C fever some time ago (not COVID) and got better almost instantly
It's always a bit reckless to put several active ingredients into medicine imo
It's a thing in US drugs to add Acetaminophen to drugs specifically to make them toxic and liver destroying, specifically so if people try to get high they're die painfully. They do it famously with tylenol three, which is codeine with acetaminophen. The acetaminophen is only there to make it poisonous.
That's not true, Tylenol 3 is a medicine and it's prescribed to treat certain conditions. The opiate component exists to trick your cns into believing that the pain isn't there and the acetaminophen functions to prevent the action of prostaglandin, reducing inflammatory response. If you want to get high, by all means get high, but it's patently false to say that there are additives in pain relievers to make it poisonous.
If that's true, why not formulate with a safer prostaglandin inhibitor like Ibuprofen instead of acetaminophen where even a 2x dose can do lasting liver harm?
Because Tylenol 3 has fda approval and ibuprofen with codeine does not. There is ibuprofen with codeine in the UK. The motive is cost savings, pure and simple.
Interesting...
Are OTC formulations subject to the same FDA standards as prescription? Like does Vicks have to seek separate FDA approval for every NyQuil?
No, so long as the components adhere to an already approved OTC monograph each new formulation doesn't require a separate approval.
It's because drugs rob you of your free will. Instead of doing what you want and what's best for you, you will instead (involuntarily) choose to keep doing the drug. That's the hazard of living in a "MUH FREEDUMBS" society like America that values individualism over collectivism.
Didn't you just make a comment about getting drunk?
why yes
Low alcohol tolerance is great…you can get loaded and save money
:thonk:
Does alcohol rob you of your free will? No. Especially when you get drunk off of three bottles of wine cooler (like I used to).
Go figure, most people who drink don't become hopeless alcoholics, as much as that Christian organization AA would like you to think so.
Alcohol is a drug. Most people who use drugs don't become hopeless drug addicts, either.
Ah, there's the AA voice coming through. Yes, it's a dangerous addictive drug just like heroin!
Do you know the oldest written work that survived the tests of time? It's the Epic of Gilgamesh. Do you know what the gods gave Gilgamesh when he found out he was mortal and doomed to die? Beer. But go ahead and tell us it's a dangerous drug just like meth or oxy.
The AA Principles and Virtues
Honesty
Step 1. We admitted that we were powerless over alcohol – that our lives had become unmanageable.
Hope
Step 2. Came to believe that a power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.
Faith
Step 3. Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood him.
The rest of the 12 steps are just as awful and you're welcome to search them yourselves. Content warning, though. You won't like what you find, it's all this kind of stuff.
I'm entirely uninterested in AA, I'm really unsure why you're bringing it up. Anything that affects your sobriety is a drug, this has nothing to do with any self help or group help organizations, it's just a fact. "Drug" doesn't mean only the dangerous ones, it means "drug", like marijuana, DXM, muscle relaxers, alcohol... anything that you might consume and no longer consider yourself sober.
Wake up babe, new ChubbyEmu vid dropped
That meme laugh part is so good
Holy shit, I couldn't make it two minutes into that video. That shit in particular creeps me out.
