It’s extremely cringe how many people on hexbear turn into chuds over the term “latinx”.

just shut the fuck up and use inclusive language. bunch of assholes turning into transphobic racist boomers the moment “latinx” pops up.

Latinx is not about eliminating the concept of gender from the language, just when referencing groups of people with multiple gender identities.

Case in point:

Badempanada also did a video on this

tldw; it's a home-grown thing in spanish by spanish speakers that is pretty widely used to make the language more inclusive. the primary opposition to its use in those countries are chuds.

“latine is better, thusly I can therefore mock latinx” :speech-r::stupidpol:

use latine as well, yeah. lots of native speakers who are queer prefer the term Latine since it’s closer to being grammatically correct and fits within sentences structure easier. latinx came first so it’s still in use in a lot of countries and communities. Use both terms and eventually one will fade out.

Complaining about latinx at this point is boring and chud tier. When you do it you’re complaining about inclusion and alienating a lot of the people who use that term.

If you’re white especially, complaining about it is also a clear virtue signal that you’re racist + queerphobic and most people will assume that. It’s literal stupidpol cracker fodder.

stop tripping over yourselves to be racist the moment you think you can use “it’s a lib idpol thing” as an excuse. It’s extremely obvious what you’re doing either intentionally or because you have unexamined reactionary brainworms.

this piss baby stupidpol cohort is not a majority on hexbear, just an annoyingly loud clique of users.

If this applies to you and you feel called out: just adapt how you’re thinking about it and move on. We all have maggots in our skulls, you’re only a bad person if you leave them in there once they're pointed out.

Not from Spain, literally never hear the word Latin either. Anyone from Spain says they're Spanish and they get treated as white, I've literally never heard of race brought up in the context of Spanish people over here ever. I've seen it in American media and from Americans online though, never here in europe or from europeans however. I've also only ever heard the word "hispanic" used in reference to south and north american people, not to people from Spain itself.

I don't mean anything by it of course. It just makes me uniquely ignorant of the topic at a level that honestly just leaves me with complete cultural confusion as it's so far outside any experience. It's hard to describe?

No I get it. We typically use Latin where I live to describe people living in Latin America. That's it. Americans began to turn it into a race thing and it's stuck with them since. It's a huge pet peeve of ours that overlooks the great diversity our countries share.

Americans began to turn it into a race thing and it’s stuck with them since

Fucking wild that Americans artificially defined "race" by the colour of one's skin, then go on to say that someone from the Dominican Republic with African ancestry, and someone from Argentina with European ancestry, are from the same Latin or Hispanic "race" because they speak the same language and share a few common cultural things. Just completely contradicting themselves to have an excuse to hate on anyone different.

Something's really wrong with the colonial brainworms over there.

If you think that's bad, Arabs are technically white per the US Census, but good luck trying to convince your average dipshit Arabs aren't brown people.

It like. Shouldn't be a thing at all?

Obviously it is and undoing that is now a nightmare. But it's weird. From my perspective it's perplexing given we don't do the race thing with Spanish people at all around the various european countries. Maybe some fringe of weird Spanish hating fash do but I've never seen them.

Perplexing. This is how I want to feel about all race topics to be honest. I want future humans to one day look back on this period and feel the way I do about this. Just completely confused.
