There's the stuff about sex and drugs that was already well known and isn't particularly lurid in this day and age, and then there's the shady business deals and influence peddling, which are definitely a bad look, but nepotism isn't illegal and Biden sure as hell isn't the first politician to set up their failchild with a well-paying fake job. Seriously, who cares? I think most people expect powerful politicians to be at least a little bit crooked, why else would you get in the game?

There's nothing on the laptop that could cause Sleepy Joe any real harm, so I don't get why libs are working overtime to make sure the story won't come out. It's still all a Russian disinfo campaign and linking to any articles about the laptop gets you shadow-banned from r/politics.

Republicans are going to hate Joe no matter what, and I seriously doubt this story would turn off any Democrats or lib-leaning indies. In my view, trying to silence any and all discussion about the laptop before it even starts looks far, far worse than just getting in front of the story. You could play it off as Joe looking out for his family, or try to trigger the cons by wisecracking about this just proves Biden is a deal-maker. Do a whataboutism and point how dRumpf wasn't shy about crooked dealings for the sake of his family and how nobody on the right cared the. There's so many ways you could defuse this, I'm genuinely at a loss about why the party is so uncharacteristically uncompromising about this. White House, please hire me as an advisor.

if you wanna look at it as a party conspiracy, i think the reasoning from the party's perspective would be that Dem voters don't have the same level of brand loyalty as GOP voters, and many of the centrists (as well as the center-right never-Trump conservatives the Dems' electoral strategy seeks to woo) actually do care a lot about impropriety and corruption, if not because of their personal sensibilities, then because of how they imagine it reflects on the strength and public image of the figures and institutions they care about preserving. As long as no real people acknowledge the laptop, it's right wing conspiracy nonsense and those voters can happily ignore it. The "he's a piece of shit, but he's our piece of shit" affect in American politics is the sole purview of the other party, and exactly what pushes those centrists away from it.

However I think the better explanation is the dead simple one that the liberal media sees Trump as an enemy, and they spent an election cycle selling Biden as the opposite of everything obscene about Trump. They're constitutionally incapable of considering a story that shows Biden to be basically the same breed of rich, craven scumbag as Trump.

Same reason for the treatment of Tara Reid Reade and why they had to drop the whole "sexy grampa" thing with Joe Biden. They had to distance Biden from sex as much as possible because of all of the weird pics and videos

It's Tara Reade; Tara Reid is the actress from the 2000's. Not being pedantic, but I made the same mistake while drunkenly replying to libs about how Joe Biden is a likely sexual assaulter, and I damn if it didn't sting to be condescendingly corrected by centrists, watch out for yourself.

I rember this essay from Eco which talked about Italian press constantly highlighting insignificant facts about their political opponents and blowing it out of proportion, because small and inconsequential facts are much harder to get rid of than actually important shit in politics. This post reminded me of that.

The essay is called 'Censorship and Silence' for those interested.

I think a lot of the censorship on the tech side (Twitter, FB, et al) was done of their own volition because Dems are friendly to them while Republicans absolutely hates the people running these services. So, there's more risk of chuds fucking with the money. Also it's easier to dismiss people talking about it as wingnuts if it doesn't get any media coverage.

its probably as simple as them thinking that emails is what took down hillary so they dont want a story with similarities to take down their guy and i dont mean some consipiracy here just maybe some people in the dnc saying to their media contacts "lets not talk about this" and then media libs doing what they do

If the Dems had any sense of strategy, they'd have friendly media constantly do little "flare up" pieces about this while the Dem leadership just kinda shrug and go, "so what?" while pointing at the :frothingfash: of the rightest of the right wingers and saying, "see how much a nothing burger will trigger the snowflakes."

    But they don't.
