Couldn't decide if this belonged in c/diy or c/sports.

This is a 3d model I made in Fusion360 of the 1lb combat robot I am working on, hoping to take to local competitions once I have a good roster across weight classes. The wheels are foam, the chassis and lid are 3d printed TPU95a (strong and flexible), with titanium armor and AR500 steel weapon discs. The pulleys and wedge mounting are in carbon fiber nylon because I think I want those to be stiffer. The electronics are pretty typical for a bot of this size - Fingertech silver spark motors and connectors, generic speed controllers/receiver and a 2204 brushless drone motor to power the weapon, powered by a 3s 450mah lipo battery. Not pictured are the blue aluminum hubcaps on the wheels (Fingertech hubs), wheel pulleys, or the timing belts driving the weapon and front wheels. It is about 220mmx120mm without the forks or long wings of the wedge, and 60mm at the top of the fingers.

As a 4 wheel drive vertical drisc (drum disc) spinner with a wedge and forks, this is basically a scaled down version of the "meta" heavyweight battlebots like Hypershock or Witch Doctor. Which makes it pretty behind the curve in creativity at this weight class but it's a classic design so I wanted to have at least one. For people unfamiliar with the sport, the discs up front spin upwards super fast, I drive into the enemy using my wedge and forks to get underneath them for a solid hit, and then the discs smack the opponent upwards. That's the idea, anyways.

Bot needs a name though. It's been through several iterations and temporary names like "Mourning Star" (after a cool racecar from an RPG I was playing at the time) and "Finger Maiden" (Elden Ring, referencing the two "fingers" that allow the bot to continue driving while upside-down), but now I feel I'm just about at the finish line and should settle on something good. Anybody good at naming things? Thoughts/questions about the design of the bot?

All that is left to do is print and assemble it, then adjust the weapon and armor to account for however much weight I have remaining.

Name it after whoever launched that fascist Spanish PM's car over a church

According to Wikipedia, the assassination was called Operación Ogro (Operation Ogre). Ogre itself would be a cool name.

I was just about to post that lol, and apparently the group that did it called themselves "Txikia," which is pronounced like "chee-kia/cheeky-uh" if any of that is interesting

Perfect name inspiration for a "flipper" bot more along the lines of Blip. This bot's flips will be pretty underwhelming in comparison, the difference between throwing someone in the air and uppercutting them with a bat.

Update: I have finished printing the prototype of this in PLA, and found the weapon reach lacking. I really had to get up in there to make contact.

So I made some changes to increase the reach of the weapon. It now uses a 60mm asymmetrical disc with a single tooth, as opposed to the old 45mm symmetrical disc. The discs even have the same weight, just gave the bigger one some holes and spokes. In order to accommodate this weapon, I needed to split the armor wedge and mount into separate right and left armor panels. The bot is now much more like Witch Doctor, but able to drive inverted rather than having a self-righting mechanism. I am also working on a system to use springs to keep pressure on these hinged armor panels, to keep them pressed to the ground.

Every time I think I'm done, I learn something new and find changes I want to make.

Oh hell yes. I've been wanting to get into this hobby but there are no competitions reasonably close to me.

"Class Struggle" is my name pick. Or "Bitforce" (as in 1/8 of a "byteforce")

https://www.robotcombatevents.com/ is pretty good at keeping track of upcoming events. I also follow the pages of the bigger local leagues that run events monthly/every couple months. There are small events all over the countryworld, with the big one being Norwalk Havoc Robot League in Norwalk, CT, which does livestreams of their 3lb "Beetleweight" fights. Bigger bots are less common, but some leagues have the facilities to fight them safely, sometimes by banning high-kinetic-energy flywheels (which also makes the bots cheaper and easier to repair. These things get spendy!)

Confession, I have yet to actually compete with these. I just have a couple built and like to entertain my cat with them (with the weapons detached!)

Doomba is already a thing and will be competing in the televised BattleBots show filming this month https://battlebots.fandom.com/wiki/Doomba

It's a joke bot but I eagerly follow its progress. https://youtu.be/f8VrZ9jKBxM

Looked up Soviet robot names and there's one major novel illustrator named Mikhail Romadin that made some cool art for stories about robots and other sci fi stuff, so maybe 'Lil' Romadin'?
