Europe is bracing for the worst energy crisis it has ever known. temperatures are already falling as winter approaches, while delivery of Russian natural gas, which last year provided 40% of Europe’s supplies, has been reduced to a trickle. Meanwhile, OPEC is cutting oil production, hydropower has been crippled by this summer’s drought, and renewable electricity is not fully in force.
opec cuts supply, Saudi refuses to up supply. Those are bad defections. If Russia did not sabotage Nord Stream then they fucking should (which they surely did). Germany drags its feet on Ukraine aid every time https://archive.ph/3Eixs, Italy joined the belt and Road Initiative and elected Meloni. Russia wants to peel entire countries away from the western alliance and Germany will be the first to cry uncle. By Western alliance I don't mean NATO (Germany is the voice in NATO most willing to say NO ). I mean occasions where the West must present a unified front, like ceasefire negotiations. This is how Russia salvages a win.
I heard the bbc reporter yesterday say the phrase "and winter is coming" like twice yesterday. Which is more awkward, dropping that phrase without acknowledging yes I know its a line from the thing?
