I can't help but think, "what if capital had actually delivered on its promises of insulation and house efficiency in general?". Like... it actually is possible to need very little fuel to heat a living space but you've gotta design and build it thoughtfully.

I keep thinking about the ridiculously dangerous advice people were giving online when Texas lost power. I wonder how many people will asphyxiate this winter in an effort to keep warm.

opec cuts supply, Saudi refuses to up supply. Those are bad defections. If Russia did not sabotage Nord Stream then they fucking should (which they surely did). Germany drags its feet on Ukraine aid every time https://archive.ph/3Eixs, Italy joined the belt and Road Initiative and elected Meloni. Russia wants to peel entire countries away from the western alliance and Germany will be the first to cry uncle. By Western alliance I don't mean NATO (Germany is the voice in NATO most willing to say NO ). I mean occasions where the West must present a unified front, like ceasefire negotiations. This is how Russia salvages a win.

I heard the bbc reporter yesterday say the phrase "and winter is coming" like twice yesterday. Which is more awkward, dropping that phrase without acknowledging yes I know its a line from the thing?

I don't mean this in an insensitive way, but I deadass hope this is the spark for more EU countries to take renewability more seriously, if not for energy independence and all that good shit.
