It's a bit of a game of chicken. They know our strategy is to win over their base, and so we'll play directly to their red-baiting by willfully alienating whatever remains of our base on the left fringe. Meanwhile, they get to use red-baiting to arouse their own base. This election will hinge on which of us is ultimately able to convince a tiny sliver of older right-wing suburban white voters. And naturally, when this fact becomes undeniably apparent, we'll use that as evidence that our strategy was the correct one, win or lose.

It was also smart because I do think those white suburban voters that Biden is going after tend to be racist. At least racist in the sense of "I literally think black people rioting in my suburban enclave is the scariest possible thing that could ever happen and I love licking pig boot because they keep the black people 'in their place'". Trump is dogwhistling to them hardcore and I think he'll get a ton of them, even if I think he still loses.

There's a post in my history where I cite a study that shows when white people are confronted with the fact that they will be a minority in a couple decades, they react by getting more conservative. I feel pretty confident this is true and applies to other areas of white supremacy i.e. blacks folks demanding justice and equality.
