The American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators recommended states to ban non-FMVSS compliant cars, including everything keijidōsha, back in 2021. The Texas DMV has issued a ruling that these cars are now, and will remain, street legal for use on Texas roadways.

unironically 10x more useful for actual work than a cybertruck or one of these gigantic childcrusher 9000 trucks with a tiny bed

Much less dangerous as well. The fact that they use safety standards as ban justification is laughable given the legality of the cyber truck tbh, or hell, motorcycles

Because if we were allowed to import light duty pick up trucks it would kill off three separate domestic markets. Theyre better work vehicles than pick up trucks, better commuters than suvs and better utility vehicles than sedans or hatchbacks.

The only way they're lacking at all is if you need to transport more than two people which virtually nobody in America does anyway.

A guess: US automakers' profits were threatened by cheap, effective Japanese vehicles and they got their dogs in the government to do something about it

They typically haul about as much as a crew cab pickup anyway, and are much easier to load and unload.

Yeah they’re great. I see lots of them with fold-down sides on the beds for side loading too. The payload ratings are not comparable to the larger consumer pickups though, sadly.

I know you're just joshing, but

Visual kei: kei = = "style, type, kind"

      Kei car: kei = = "light[weight]"

The US will never have a Civil War because the libs will just cave. But maybe in celebration of the easy victory of the GOP - proud Texas republicans will make technicals just to own the libs and make fun of them.

"My kei technical is a beaut - ain't she? I put in the super-duper-mini Gatling gun mod and everything..."

They're banned here and we don't even have domestic car production
