The comments are fucking hilarious, praising the freedom Batista granted them and how cool the cars were until "one man's greed" fucked it all up

I'm here in Cuba right now. I've met a number of awful tourists who simply can't acknowledge that the embargo is the root cause of the stagnation, or that it has any material effect. Met two awful Austrians yesterday who described the Cubans as "sleepy" and how they could solve all their problems if they just opened up and let tourism save them. They were utterly awful.

Peter and Elfie, I hope you have a horrible holiday.

It's the same shit with chuds going :awooga: over women in Iran pre-Shah, these dummies only care about aesthetics i.e. the cars, never mind the human rights abuses.

Oh they claim to care about human rights abuses, it's just funny that Batista did none of them and Castro did all of them apparently.

Could there be certain conditions preventing Cuba from having cool cars now? Perhaps material in nature? :thinkin-lenin:

But didn't you see the thumbnail? Cool car = le beacon of civilized Western society and freedom (epic). Fidel took away the cars and replaced it with authoritarian gommulism 1984, and that's why there's no food, smoke breaks for nurses, and free healthcare (a policy pushed by Big Satan)

There's an interesting phenomenon with stereotypes. Before the fall of communism the stereotypical Russian woman was an old babushka, after the fall it was a tall, blonde model. Russian women didn't change, what changed was their relationship to rich Western men.

you judge a society based on how many treats the wealthiest can pile up

we judge a society based on the conditions of its poorest

    we are not the same

crazy how much legwork just one staged (or fake, or inaccurate, etc) photo can do in terms of propaganda.

Yes, life was pretty great for the few wealthy Cubans. Not so great for the vast majority of people, though. But gusanos don't care about them one bit.

    how cool the cars were

The cars are still extremely cool, nowhere else in the world is there an industry of people using and reusing cars from that period. Granted they do it because they're forced to by the blockade, but still.

Now do one where the thumbnail is a farmer being crammed into a barrel with spikes on the inside and rolled down a hill for the crime of literacy, as was tradition in your "advanced" society

Literacy ruined my grandfather's favorite island-wide rape casino. Now the pedos have to go all the way to the Dominican Republic in order to debauch themselves.

Holy shit do you have anywhere I can read more about this? I knew Batista was bad, but I wasn't aware of the gory details

This shit is why people still don't understand why the Taliban, Khomeini, Mao and Fidel got into power in those ''modernized'' countries

I saw a vid on youtube one time that was a car going down the streets of LA in the 40s. People in the comments were like "This is what LA used to be!" and "I miss the old days."

LA. Famously never having crime in the 1940s, 30s, 20s, 10s, etc.

So are the comments like 10% feds and 50% gusanos and the rest typical anti-communist Americans?

I love the comment from the posting account USAHavana that mentions that the poor people under Castro in rural Cuba aren't even allowed to see tourists or do prostitution and they need the money.

Like, yeah, guy, of course this is what you think of when you think about poor foreigners - sex tourism.

Didn't see that one, what a gross freak. He can die mad knowing that Cuba is free and there is nothing he can do about it
