Got a new pair of jeans, wore them for a few hours and they ripped at the crotch when I sat down. Right size, didn't do a big squat or anything. Ok whatever, it's a tiny hole. Couple wears later, hole is the size of my fist. What the fuck? I can't keep going through pants like this. Are jeans just shittier now? Am I just too extreme for pants?

Good point. I guess I assumed that the fabric itself tore because fixing that is a bigger problem than just mending a bad seam. I forgot that not everyone can sew and might just let a small hole in the seam become a large hole in the seam. That would still be surprising though, because the inseam of jeans are usually done with the kind of seam where you fold the two edges so they kind of interlock and then stitch both sides. I can't remember what it's called, but it's strong.

ElGosso pointed out that maybe just the stitching gave way. I had assumed that the fabric itself tore. Mending a seam is fairly easy if you want to learn how! Patching a rend in the fabric is more complicated, especially now that it's bigger. Anyway, I can help you if you're interested in learning how to mend your jeans.

Idk, but a tutorial would probably help others if you did a post!

I did one last year, so I wouldn't want to get annoying. I could put something together for you though. What level of prior knowledge are you working with? One thing I will say for your jeans though, is if the fabric ripped, then I wouldn't bother with trying to patch them if they were my jeans because the fabric sucks and it'll likely just rip again around the new patch. Sewing the seam back together is a whole other situation though, and easy to fix. I could definitely put a tutorial together on that.
