Plus the ones who do know about Donbass think that the Russians invaded in 2014 and that all the fighting in Donbas has been done by Russian troops pretending not to be Russian troops. They also think that Russia invaded Crimea and is occupying it using force, instead of just, like... swapping the flags because everyone in Crimea is already Russian.
evacuating the TSMC specialists just means they handicap everyone involved. wafer fab is a very complicated process and if any cog is missing you gotta do a lot of training and fixing to replace that cog. and its not like you can just copy paste them onto some new site. new equipment means new training. many years of delay, potentially decades, will be the case
tbf the soviets did have some amazing spies (turns out communism is a good motivator when you live in a capitalist hellhole) that fed the designs to them. so they got parallel research out of it

in practical terms Taiwan has been acting as country for over 70 years.
Its been operating as a satrap of the American empire, on par with SK, Japan, and the Philippines.
But it isn't soveign in any practical sense. Taiwan can't exist independent of the mainland. They're not Cuba or North Korea.
Its been a giant "mess on the carpet" for 70+ years.
