Apocalypse Now, Full Metal Jacket, and Come and See all portray the horrors of war (and not just from the perspective of the invaders) and all of these movies are devoid of cliches as well

Bazinga brains have adopted Apocalypse now and Full Metal Jacket as blue curtain treats.

I've heard the "napalm in the morning" and mind-breaking drill sergeant abuse quotes said as if they were based and funny, even the "anyone who runs is a VC! Anyone who stands still is a well disciplined VC!" line as if it was also something awesome and cool and admirable from the speaking character, not a moment of horror.

I also know from personal accounts that Full Metal Jacket is a very popular film in military rec rooms.

"Come and See" seems to have mostly been spared the blue curtain treatment, though one time I saw someone praising that movie with a little too much emphasis about how great the gory bits were like it was some teenage slasher flick.

Come and See's blue curtains would just be "Nazis are evil and everyone dies in war, usually in a mundane and sudden way"

The way the blue curtain enjoyer said it, it was "that movie was based. Totally uncensored blood and gore." :so-true:

That's just someone with no brain. Even a child could understand the subtext of that movie because it isn't hidden behind anything and is presented to you in giant flashing neon text and followed by loud megaphones of people saying "WAR IS HELL, THIS IS SUFFERING, THERE IS NOTHING GLORIOUS ABOUT DEATH"

That worries me, because I saw that opinion on Hexbear. :scared:

It was months ago. I'd have to really dig to find it, and I'd rather not stir things up first, especially because prior to that "Come and See is based because uncensored blood and gore" statement, they tangled with me about how I must be mentally ill because I criticized some unrelated treat in a different thread. I didn't reply to their comment about Come and See, I only saw it.

Fun fact: that "well-disciplined VC" door gunner guy was the one originally slated to be the drill sergeant. But then Lee Ermey auditioned, and Kubrick gave him the job immediately.
